Inspecting the Inspection

The energy present at the Ann Arbor stop of Cochise’s Inspection tour makes it a concert that you do not want to miss. Upon arrival, I found myself in a line easily over a block and a half long, surrounded by a crowd of  people all there for one thing, fun.

After finally getting into the venue, I was greeted with a hoard of energy. The crowd had quickly poured in front of the stage and were already moshing to the venue's pre-recorded DJ set. It was absolute chaos in the best way. There was a duo dressed in Teletubbie costumes dancing on stage, the crowd had created a dance circle, and articles of clothing were flying every which way. The energy continued to rise until the opener walked onto the stage, where it began to get even more hype! BigNumbaNine opened the show and took over the venue as if he owned the place. With a strong aura of confidence, NumbaNine quickly had the crowd vibing along to every song. He kept the energy rising until the very end of his set, a feat I'm sure all openers strive to accomplish. Once he left, the crowd was absolutely buzzing for the man of the hour.

The only description that would do Cochise justice is energized. The main act exploded onto the stage with his hit Professor Professor and it was immediately obvious that the entire crowd was determined to match his energy. He flaunted himself across the stage captivating the crowd, never letting the moment simmer. In between songs Cochise interacted with the crowd, spitting jokes and one liners to function as interludes. This persisted for about 35 minutes before the main act declared he had enough; it was time for the last song of the night. When Tell Em, his most popular hit single, came blasting through the speakers the crowd absolutely lost it, hitting an all time energetic high in the process. Afterwards, Cochise declared that “all hot single ladies head to the merch stand”, so obviously I waited at the stand to meet the big ‘Chise.

In the hour and a half wait to meet the star, I got to know the two men dressed up in Teletubbie costumes. They told me (and I’m paraphrasing here) that they had dressed up to “help bring some fun to the artist…you know they’re always performing for us so we wanted to give a little something back”. Then, after some more discussion with fans, we were finally able to come face to face with the man himself. Cochise was a treasure to meet. I’m not the best when it comes to keeping a calm demeanor, so when I got excited, I was definitely stumbling on my words. The security definitely didn’t help my nerves, denying me the right to conduct an interview; but, I was able to ask one question off the record.

“So what got you into music?”

(Paraphrasing again here)

Cochise: “I grew up around music so it was always just something that surrounded me. I started making music in high school and it just kind of came to me. I started having fun and now we’re here you know?”

After an admittedly awkward silence I was ushered out by the security guard as Cochise headed back for the night. I would highly recommend going to The Inspection Tour. The energy alone was worth the ticket price, being infectious the entire concert, making it an unforgettable concert experience.
